OLPC is finally on sale for all!!

olpc.jpgCome November 12th and the One Laptop Per Child(OLPC) program that aims at having one laptop in every child’s hand will kick off its commercial operations. The same was officially announced and the release day was specified as next week on Monday will see an end to the long drawn speculations that at one stage had the program and the agenda itself in question.

However, if you are interested in buying one for your self, better act fast because the OLPC is only going to be on sale for a fortnight. Even though the sale model and market was quite different from the American Christmas shopping masses, if everything goes right according to industry and sales speculations the One Laptop Per Child XO is going to be a phenomenal sales success and not just because of the hype but for some very valid and interesting reasons.

Ecogeek had run a story a while back rating the OLPC as the most energy efficient laptop around and even went on to rate it a 10 on the greenest laptop. Now it seems that OLPC has released some data of its own, and according to the data the OLPC seems to be claiming that (it is), “most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly laptop, based on independent evaluations and data.”

“In developing the XO laptop, OLPC had the goal of creating a child-friendly educational tool that inspires creativity and learning for children all over the world,” said Mary Lou Jepsen, chief technology officer at OLPC. “But equally important for us was to produce a laptop that could be used in remote areas with unreliable or limited energy sources. The result is a laptop computer that has more than 10 times less environmental impact than the average laptop computer. It’s the greenest laptop ever made, and that’s not just its color.”
